Meet the Team: Linda Stack-Nelson

Next up in the Meet the Team series is Linda Stack-Nelson, our Managing Editor. Read on as they share about the genres close their heart, their introduction to translated literature, and the mastery of dough.

Where are you based? Dallas, TX

What’s your role at Deep Vellum? I am the Managing Editor. My day-to-day mostly involves managing the production/editorial pipeline, taking books from manuscript to finished product.

What's the best or most interesting part of your job? It's very rewarding to have a project become a finished book you can hold in your hand! Particularly with books that have an interesting formal component, it's very gratifying to see the author's vision realized.

What is your favorite book we've published, and why? Little Bird by Claudia Ulloa Donoso, translated by Lily Meyer! Delightful little bites of odd fiction. Short format + near-reality is the way to my heart.

What’s your background? I'm originally from St. Paul, MN, but I went to college at the University of Oklahoma, where I first dove into the world of translated literature through an internship with World Literature Today. I've since worked with Graywolf Press, Redleaf Press, and Rain Taxi Review of Books, and I've been a bookseller for both children and adults.

What’s a forthcoming book from any of our imprints that you're looking forward to? I'm very excited about the paperback release of Manon Steffan Ros' The Blue Book of Nebo. It's a real gem of our backlist and I hope it will have a new life and find a new readership in this new format.

Do you have any pets? I unfortunately do not, but I am an uncle to many wonderful creatures and I love them all.

What is your favorite pie flavor? I love a classic mixed berry pie—especially if it has a really good crust. I'll use a crumble topping myself, but I admire those who've mastered the art of dough.
