Meet the Team: Eliana Gala

Next up in the Meet the Team series is Eliana Gala, our Sales Director and Assistant Bookstore Manager. Read on as they share about the confluence of psychology and literature in their life, conversations with readers in the bookstore, and their elderly dog, Tiara.

Where are you based? Dallas, TX

What's the best or most interesting part of your job? To quote a book about a bookseller: "It is a bookstore, though, so she gets, like, I am looking for this book, it has a blue cover, a lot. It's supposed to be the worst annoying thing you can ask a book seller, but she's into it. People always think they know less than they do about a book. She can usually draw it out of them and figure it out. When did you see it? Where did you hear about it? Is it a happy book? These conversations can almost be like a moment of actual human connection, except it's basically a one-direction connection. Maybe in another life Maria will be a therapist or a social worker or something." - Nevada, Imogen Binnie

What is your favorite book we've published, and why? AVA by Carole Maso. Fragmented letters. Vignettes. Reads like poetry. Melancholic. Let it wash over you. I love that.

What’s your background? I used to be a counseling student but my fascination with psychoanalysis was appreciated more in the literary sphere and than in contemporary therapeutic thought.

What’s a forthcoming book from any of our imprints that you're looking forward to? Fourteen Ways of Looking by Erin Vincent.

Fun fact: The Deep Vellum shop dog is Eliana’s long lost (and found!) childhood dog, Tiara, who is now fourteen years old. A real Homeward Bound situation! Come visit her at the bookstore if you’re in Dallas!
