Meet the Team: Katy Lemieux
Next up in the Meet the Team series is Katy Lemieux, our Development Director. Read on as she shares about how Deep Vellum makes its money, Dallas arts institutions, and whales’ interiority.
Where are you based? Grapevine, Texas, where my bookstore Talking Animals is located.
What’s your role at Deep Vellum? Development Director: working with Will and the Board of Directors to fundraise; responsible for managing all individual and institutional giving, grants and reports, major gift acquisition, and cultivating new subscribers and patrons to Deep Vellum
What's the best or most interesting part of your job? The best part of my job is getting to meet so many interesting people and learn/write about DV books.
What is your favorite book we've published, and why? Very partial to Little Seed right now, and as a former beekeeper, I am very excited to read Grey Bees next.
What’s your background? My background is in writing and nonprofit arts administration, and I have worked with some of Dallas's art institutions, like the Dallas Opera, the DMA, and WaterTower Theatre. I was an arts reporter in Dallas from 2015 to 2024 and occasionally write now and then, but usually for Texas Monthly. I own a bookstore in Grapevine and come from a small business family. I am married to a public school teacher and have two daughters, two dogs, and two cats, and our life is immersed in the arts.
What’s a forthcoming book from any of our imprints that you're looking forward to? I am very excited for Come Round Right and Terror Counter.
Fun fact: My favorite sea creatures are whales. The more I have learned about them and their social structures, the more I have realized that animals have interior worlds and relationships that we don't even begin to comprehend.
Fun fact #2: French Silk Pie is my weakness!
