Deep Vellum awarded Orchid Giving Circle grant

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Deep Vellum awarded grant from the Orchid Giving Circle in partnership with Communities Foundation of Texas

August 30, 2025

DALLAS, TX — Deep Vellum Publishing has been awarded a grant of $3,000 from the Orchid Giving Circle, a philanthropic organization of women supporting Asian American Pacific Islander communities in North Texas through grants and community events. Awarded due to Deep Vellum’s commitment to publishing and uplifting the Asian literary diaspora, this grant will support the translation, publication, and promotion of Asian literature in 2025 and 2026.

Since its founding in 2013, Deep Vellum’s mission has been to bring the world into conversation through literature. In the intervening years, the press has grown to become the largest publisher of literature in translation in the United States, and the second-largest publisher of women in translation in the world. Deep Vellum has been proud to follow through on its commitment to support the Asian diaspora through the publication of both translated and English-original works, from poetry collections like Return of the Chinese Femme by Dorothy Chan (longlisted for the Lambda Literary Award), novels such as Kim Yideum’s Blood Sisters, translated by Jiyoon Lee (a finalist for the Big Other Book Award), and memoirs like Wei Tchou’s Little Seed (a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and a New Yorker Best Book of 2024). Forthcoming titles that will benefit from the support of the Orchid Giving Circle grant include the poetry collection The Ruins by Ye Hui, translated by Dong Li, and the genre-bending novel What Remains by Leylâ Erbil, translated by Alev Ersan, Amy Spangler, and Mark Wyers.

The Orchid Giving Circle will host a Grantee Celebration in Dallas on Friday, October 3, at the Communities Foundation of Texas, honoring the 2025 grantees in an evening of recognition and community.
