Please join AGHI in Translation, featuring a public conversation with Lily Meyer, translator of The Invisible Years by Rodrigo Hasbún, hosted by the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute. Meyer is joined in conversation by Gisela Heffes, author of Crocodiles at Night, and Marcelo Nogueira from the Division of Spanish and Portuguese in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

AGHI in Translation is a partnership between the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute and Deep Vellum Publishing. Established in 2025, the program fosters global literary dialogue at the local level by supporting the production, publication, and promotion of one major work of international literary translation each year.

Lily Meyer is a translator, a critic, and the author of the novels The End of Romance and Short War. She is a staff writer at The Atlantic. Her translations include Claudia Ulloa Donoso's Little Bird and Ice for Martians, Abraham Jimenez Enoa's The Hidden Island, and Clara Usón's The Shy Assassin.

Gisela Heffes is a Professor of Latin American Literature and Culture at Johns Hopkins University as well as a writer, ecocritic, and public intellectual with a particular focus on literature, media, and the environment in Latin America. She is the author of several novels, including Ischia (Deep Vellum, 2023). She currently resides in Silver Spring, Maryland.
