DEAL ANNOUNCEMENT: The87press acquires UK rights for TERROR COUNTER
DALLAS, TX — Deep Vellum is excited to announce the87press’s UK acquisition of Fargo Nissim Tbakhi’s TERROR COUNTER. Through arrangement with Deep Vellum's Rights Director, Sarah McEachern, and the87press’s Founding Director, Azad Ashim Sharma, TERROR COUNTER is slated to be released in the UK and Ireland in June 2026.
“As a PACBI signatory and a publishing collective rooted in solidarity with Palestinian's across the globe during this unconscionable moment of genocide, we were deeply grateful for the trust bestowed in us by Deep Vellum and their desire to see Fargo Nissim Tbakhi's erudite and rhizomatic collection Terror Counter come onto our catalogue in June 2026,” says Azad Ashim Sharma, founding director of the87press. “It gives me an enormous sense of pride, achievement, and gratitude to welcome this important work to our UK readership where it finds home alongside a growing series of books written by Palestinians, which include Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, Sarona Abuaker, and, as of next summer, Issam Zineh.
“I have the greatest admiration for the work of Deep Vellum and our other US partner publishing houses who continue to do vital work in furthering literary culture in a time of such gross negligence and oppression against the written word and with that, I look forward to bringing more books to readers in collaboration.”
Moving through sections of varying experimentalism, from an invented visual form (the Gazan Tunnel) to all-caps queer ecstatic, TERROR COUNTER attempts to carve out a space for the negotiation of an alternative subjecthood. The voices in this collection are driven by despair, futility, utopia, vulnerability and the spirit of a collective liberation; they move in search of a lyrical voice which can inhabit both the paranoid preservationist mode that facilitates Palestinian survival, and the imaginative possibilities that might make possible Palestinian life. TERROR COUNTER asks: where and how might a Palestinian subject escape the public consumption of American letters? And, ultimately, how can we continue to love each other amidst the endless terror of the colonial world?
Fargo Nissim Tbakhi is a Palestinian performance artist.
