FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Deep Vellum announces publication of Antonio Moresco’s Games of Eternity trilogy in English translation
DALLAS, TX — Over the next several years, Deep Vellum will publish Antonio Moresco’s seminal Games of Eternity (Giochi dell’eternità) trilogy, translated into English for the first time by Max Lawton. Lauded as one of the founders of the modern Italian literary canon, Moresco is the author of over thirty books, and this monumental trilogy stands as the colossal project that has defined his career.
“The Games of Eternity trilogy is one of the most daring and visionary works to ever appear in Italian literature,” writes Vincenzo Latronica, author of Perfection. “It has inspired and terrified at least two generations of Italian writers.”
Deep Vellum, which published a translation of Moresco’s debut novel, Clandestinity, in 2022, is thrilled to be bringing this trilogy to English-language readers for the first time. Shepherded by Max Lawton, translator of Michael Lentz’s ambitious Schattenfroh and many works by Vladimir Sorokin, and Francesco Pacifico, award-winning author and founder of Il Tascabile, the first book in the trilogy, The Beginnings, will be available in March 2026. The second book, Songs of Chaos, is slated for publication in 2027, with the final installment, The Uncreated Ones, to follow thereafter.
“Antonio Moresco is Italy's answer to William Blake, the Marquis De Sade, and Cosmo Kramer. And his Games of Eternity trilogy is the most entertaining work of Italian metaphysics since Dante's Divine Comedy,” write Lawton and Pacifico. “Through the course of our collaboration, our goal was to remake Moresco’s novels into English texts as strange and defamiliarized as their Italian originals. Working closely also with Moresco himself, we explored the freedom that was mandated by his sprawling, multi-layered vision of the world.”
Covers for the Games of Eternity trilogy are designed by Zoe Guttenplan, with art direction by Max Lawton and Sarah Forbau. Guttenplan has previously designed covers for Dalkey Archive Press titles such as Vladimir Sorokin's Dispatches from the District Committee and The Sugar Kremlin. Lawton shares his excitement about this ongoing collaboration and the design principles of "nostalgia, provocation, and distortion" that underlie these projects.
The Beginnings is available for pre-order now via Deep Vellum’s website and in bookstores everywhere, with its publication date set for March 24, 2026. Readers can also pre-order the full trilogy from Deep Vellum now.
Readers in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles can celebrate the first installment in this groundbreaking trilogy in person at their local independent bookstore; event dates for The Beginnings tour will be announced soon!
