Meet the Team: Sarah Forbau

Next up in the Meet the Team series is Sarah Forbau, our Marketing & Publicity Coordinator. Read along as she shares about the novels that sparked her love of reading, her trajectory to publishing, and becoming a cat person.

Where are you based? Dallas, TX

What’s your role at Deep Vellum? I'm the Marketing & Publicity Coordinator. I assist James and Nadine in their roles while also helping in overseeing cover design projects, library and academic marketing, internal design work, and keeping our website up to date.

What's the best or most interesting part of your job? My co-workers! I think the most enriching aspect of my job is being in close contact with so many interesting and knowledgeable people. I'm constantly learning new things about the industry or expanding my knowledge of books through regular conversations with our team.

What is your favorite book we've published, and why? My favorite Deep Vellum title is The Blue Book of Nebo. Reading this book reminded me of so many novels I read when I was younger that initially sparked my love for reading. It's quiet and simple, but deeply moving.

What’s your background? My life has largely been centered around books. I studied American Literature in university where I also worked for my school's library for a few years before becoming an assistant manager at a local bookstore. Before landing my position at Deep Vellum, a lot of my time was spent studying, reading, or researching the publishing industry. This is my first publishing position and I couldn't be more enthused to be a part of this team.

What’s a forthcoming book from any of our imprints that you're looking forward to? We just announced our acquisition of Michael Bible's The Terrible which is an imaginative, fever dream-ish account of Ivan the Terrible's brother. We won't be releasing the novel anytime soon, but I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Do you have any pets? I have two cats, Winston and Toast. Winston is a senior cat with a big heart and Toast is a smelly rascal. I've always considered myself a dog person, but my younger cat, Toast, has changed my mind on that. When I'm home he's always by my side or in my lap. We've become a little inseparable.
