Deal Announcement: Deep Vellum and La Reunion to Publish The Texas Bound Anthology in Summer 2027
Deep Vellum and La Reunion are thrilled to announce the acquisition of The Texas Bound Anthology, for publication in Summer 2027. The Texas Bound Anthology brings together the three volumes of the Texas Bound series, landmark collections of short fiction by Texas writers including Larry McMurtry, Sandra Cisneros, and Katherine Anne Porter.
The stories assembled were originally featured in the Dallas Museum of Art’s Arts & Letters Live “Texas Bound” reading series, where they were performed by Texas-linked actors including Tommy Lee Jones, Kathy Bates, Marcia Gay Harden, and Barry Corbin. This innovative mix of writing and acting talent was a sensation in Dallas and on tour.
The original Texas Bound volumes, edited by Arts & Letters Live founder, Kay Cattarulla, were accompanied by cassette tapes featuring thirty-one recorded readings—now to be re-released as an audiobook alongside The Texas Bound Anthology.
Initially published by Southern Methodist University Press between 1994 and 2001, these volumes and recordings achieved national success and rave reviews:
“Stories about people coming to terms with love, race, myths, time and honor, in towns that transcend Texas even as they evoke it.” —The New York Times
“Compelling stories and passionate readings – all literally from the heart of Texas.” —Southern Living
“When Tommy Lee Jones reads Larry McMurtry, there is nothing else in this world for seventeen minutes.” —The Dallas Morning News
These extraordinary volumes and recordings have sadly been unavailable since SMU Press closed in 2010. It is our great honor to present them to a new generation of readers and listeners.
