Call for Departmental Interns: Fall 2026

Deep Vellum seeks interns for part-time educational internships for Fall 2026, running from September through December. All internships are remote unless otherwise specified. Interns will work on a variety of titles from the catalogs of Deep Vellum and our imprints, including Dalkey Archive.

This call is open through August 14, 2026.

Through this internship, regardless of the position you choose, you will learn the ins and outs of working at an independent publisher and will get face time with various departments. Our goal is that by the end of the season, you’re able to use the vocabulary of a small publisher, know your way around the departments, and have learned more about what it takes to bring out a book and support its journey.

To apply, please send an email to jobs@deepvellum.org. In the title of your email, please use the phrase “Internship Fall 2026.” In your email, please attach your resume and cover letter, and indicate the departmental position for which you’d like to be considered. Please select one department only. This is an unpaid position.

Departments seeking interns:

Interns will gain on-the-ground experience at our in-person hub, assisting with the physical management and organization of inventory, shelving, fulfillment, and customer engagement.

Development (10 hours/week):
The development intern will support fundraising initiatives, including managing donor records in Salesforce, researching funding opportunities, coordinating grant applications, and maintaining the grant calendar. This role provides hands-on experience in nonprofit development, including fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and grant management.

Production (10-20 hours/week):
Production interns will learn about the practical side of how a manuscript becomes a physical book, from Word Doc to printer. This internship will include learning about the logistics that keep the wheels of publishing turning, as well as giving interns significant training and experience in copyediting, proofreading, and design/layout.

Programming (10 hours/week, hybrid/in person at our Dallas storefront):
Programming interns will learn how to develop literary events and programs in service of Deep Vellum’s publications, bookstore, and the broader Dallas community. In addition to learning about the logistical and creative considerations of event planning, interns will gain on-the-ground experience at our in-person community hub and bookstore, assisting with author events, book clubs, and more.

Publicity (10 hours/week):
Publicity interns will learn about what goes into a book’s promotional plan at an independent press and gain hands-on experience with publicity outreach. Tasks may include designing press releases, researching potential outlets and angles, maintaining records of press coverage, submitting books for literary awards and festivals, and drafting individualized pitches for forthcoming titles.
