Director of Development

We are seeking a Director of Development to join our development team at Deep Vellum. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the nonprofit arts community, a proven track record in the field of nonprofit fundraising and donor relations, a desire to play a central role and take initiative in growing an innovative organization.

The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to grow Deep Vellum’s fundraising and nonprofit outreach within the Dallas community and nationally and to refine the strategic vision for Deep Vellum. The Director of Development will also supervise a part-time Development Assistant.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED SKILLS

Candidates must have excellent strategic and executive decision-making skills and interpersonal skills, have at least two years of experience in the field of fundraising and donor relations, enjoy building relationships, and be adept at working a self-managed environment. Candidates with a robust network of Dallas-based and/or national connections in the field of arts philanthropy are strongly encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Our Director of Development will be responsible for the following (not an exhaustive list):

  1. Working with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to identify and refine the organization strategic vision and plan and annual fundraising targets

  2. Planning and executing semi-annual fundraising campaigns

  3. Overseeing Deep Vellum’s major gifts program, including liaising with existing donors and working with the Board of Directors and Advisory Board to recruit new donors

  4. Writing and creating evergreen and campaign-specific donor and prospect materials

  5. Overseeing the Development Assistant, who is primarily responsible for grant research and writing and database management

  6. Overseeing grant applications and reporting, with the support of the Development Assistant

  7. Establishing fundraising objectives for over short-term and long-term periods

  8. Planning occasional fundraising events and engaging the Board of Directors and the Advisory Board in development event planning

LOCATION

While Deep Vellum’s headquarters and executive staff are located in Dallas, Texas, the Director of Development will work from home except for occasional office visits and relevant events and meetings. Applicants must be based in North Texas.

Financial & Administrative Operations Manager

We are seeking a full-time Financial & Administrative Operations Manager to join our growing team at Deep Vellum. The ideal candidate will have a passion for reading and writing as well as a passion for analytics, be an active member in the nonprofit arts and social impact community, with a proven track record in the field of nonprofit bookkeeping and accounting, and have a can-do attitude with strong desire to play a central role and take initiative in growing an innovative organization in the midst of a period of growth and capacity building while having fun and making the world a more engaged, literary place.

The Financial & Administrative Operations Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, the Sales & Marketing team, and the Board of Directors to manage Deep Vellum’s manage all provide financial reporting and accounting in support of the organization’s business operations, including payroll, payables, inventory management, and royalty statements.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED SKILLS

Candidates must have excellent strategic and executive decision-making skills and interpersonal skills, have at least three years of experience in the field of nonprofit management or in publishing industry operations, enjoy building collaborative relationships, and be adept at working a self-managed environment. Candidates with a history of nonprofit and publishing bookkeeping and accounting are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with QuickBooks and the Microsoft suite required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Deep Vellum’s Financial & Administrative Operations Manager will be responsible for the following (not an exhaustive list):

  1. Oversee all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping for organization to prepare for annual nonprofit audit;

  2. Handle all payables and receipts for the organization, including sending and receiving invoices; including check, wire, and ACH payments;

  3. Oversee inventory management for the organization’s 1,000+ published books in Dallas warehouse as well as in distributor’s system;

  4. Prepare annual royalty statements for all titles under contract;

  5. Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to define and update the organization’s operational and financial strategic vision;

  6. Analyze Deep Vellum’s systems to identify new opportunities for innovative approaches to operations
